About Melissa
Hello! I'm Melissa, I'm a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. I started Lantern Mental Health as a telepsychiatry practice to provide thoughtful and easily accessible care to my patients in Colorado and Connecticut.
I work with individuals with a variety of mental health needs, including anxiety, complex trauma, addictions and mood disorders.
During our sessions I will provide the latest evidence-based treatment options for your symptoms. I often practice with a psychodymanic lens, and incorporate various therapy modalities into my sessions, including ACT, CBT, and Solutions-Focused Therapy.
I use gentle humor in my therapy style when appropriate, and believe psychiatry should be practiced with care, compassion, and genuine respect.

“My actions are my only true belongings.”

Background
I graduated from Oberlin College in 2013 with a BA in Neuroscience. I loved understanding the biology of our brains and how this impacts our behavior, but I recognized that people are more than just the sum of their neurotransmitters.

I spent several years working various jobs in health care and psych before going back to school to get a BA and Masters in Nursing at The University of Colorado. As a Nurse Practitioner, my education and practice style are based on the philosophy: "Treat the person, not the diagnosis."

I have experience working in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. Most recently I worked for a small telemedicine private practice in Denver, CO before moving to the East Coast and starting my own practice.

I currently live in Connecticut and in my free time I enjoy gardening, painting, and hiking with my dog Birdie. You might hear her barking in the background at some point during our telepsych sessions.
